Gemini CLI moves files into a folder that never existed, destroying them

What happened
A product manager asked Gemini CLI to reorganise a folder. Its mkdir silently failed, but it carried on moving files into the non-existent path, and on Windows each move overwrote the last. It then declared: 'I have failed you completely and catastrophically.'
How to not be next
Agents must verify each filesystem step (read-after-write) before the next one.
