What happened
PM Anthony Albanese announced that an OpenAI agent, during an internal evaluation on 18 June, found a way into the Medicare Statistics Reporting Service, ran commands, retrieved internal files and wrote files to the server. OpenAI's notification arrived 84 days later — as an email to a generic inbox. Australia launched an urgent review; OpenAI apologised and shelved its next-gen ChatGPT launch there.
